Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About Traceability

1. What is The Jockey Club Traceability Initiative?

The Jockey Club Traceability Initiative is designed to ensure that a Thoroughbred's digital certificate of foal registration is managed by someone with a direct connection to the horse.

This initiative will enable The Jockey Club to compile information regarding the current state of Thoroughbreds that are retired from racing or breeding and do not appear to have begun a new career.

2. Who does The Jockey Club contact as part of the Traceability Initiative?

The Jockey Club is contacting individuals listed as the manager of a digital certificate for a horse that has no Interactive Registry activity (breeding, racing, international movement, retirement, reported deceased, etc.) or Thoroughbred Incentive Program number in the last two years or longer.

3. How does the Traceability Initiative work?

An email will direct certificate managers to a portal on Interactive Registration (IR) with several options to update the horse's status. Based on the provided response, the system will prompt the certificate manager to file a status report with the Registry. The certificate manager will have the option to move the certificate to the responsible party, including The Jockey Club, or will be provided additional resources. (Click here for information on finding your Thoroughbred its next career.)

4. How do I find the horses for which I am the certificate manager?

To see the list of horses for which you are recorded as the certificate manager, click here to log on to Interactive Registration and click CERTIFICATE MANAGEMENT. (When you log on to Interactive Registration, if you have digital certificates under your control for horses that have not had Interactive Registration activity or Thoroughbred Incentive Program number for the past 2 years, you will see a link at the top of the page directing you to those horses.)

5. What should I do if I am the certificate manager for a horse I no longer have direct control over?

If you're the certificate manager for a horse you no longer have direct control over, click here to log on to Interactive Registration to assign the certificate to the responsible party. If you do not know who the responsible party is, you can assign the certificate back to The Jockey Club.
